Alief - International Services YMCA is a unique branch of the YMCA of Greater Houston that seeks to meet the needs of Houstons significant refugee and immigrant communities. We provide comprehensive programs that focus on building human assets and fostering self-sufficiency. As a Driver on our team, you will play an integral role in helping refugees, asylees, Cuban border crossers, Special Immigrant Visa holders and victims of human trafficking gain access to a wide range of social support services with the goal of becoming self-sufficient.
Duties /Responsibilities
As a Driver, you will primarily provide transportation to clients for different appointments around Greater Houston and the surrounding area.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Operate YMCA vehicles, if available, or own vehicle observing traffic regulations and safety protocols
- Maintain passenger and YMCA vehicle maintenance log
- Report repairs needed in timely to the Program Coordinator and Operations Department
- Provide transportation to clients in a timely and courteous manner, following guidelines and schedule provided
- Perform airport pickup of new arrivals
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements
- Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of timesheets
- Perform other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor
Annual Outcomes and Indicators
- Transporting 100% of assigned clients to approved destinations or authorized locations
Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age and have a valid drivers license, clean driving record, automobile liability insurance and a working vehicle
- Complete the Defensive Driving Course
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Be familiar with major freeways/roads in Houston
- Able to lift 50+ pounds (new arrivals luggage)
- Fluency in a refugee language is required
- Must have a working phone to communicate directly with clients
- Ability to drive diverse types of vehicles i.e., pickup trucks, minivan
- Have access to a personal vehicle for use when needed
- Responsible for any tickets and fines issued, except for those due to maintenance of agency vehicle
- High School Diploma or GED
