General Responsibilities: Responsible for providing direct instruction to students with autism and related developmental disabilities. Responsible for assisting with and implementing special education instructional programs, and following state and federal policies regarding special education procedures. .

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates accurate knowledge of evidence based teaching practices (reinforcement, prompting, visual schedules, antecedent based intervention, etc.). Demonstrates accurate knowledge of the learning and behavioral characteristics of the disabilities of the students with whom they work. Demonstrates understanding of functions of behavior and is knowledgeable of interventions matched to each. Experience working in an educational setting with students with autism and/or related developmental disabilities. Experience with a variety of evidence-based instructional practices as well as data collection and its utilization. Specific knowledge of assistive technology, interventions to support communication and social skills development. Familiarity with the Virginia Aligned Standards of Learning, or comparable modified curricula and instruction on Activities of Daily Living. Experience instructing students with extensive support needs in a collaborative setting. Knowledge of special education laws, policies and practices.
Education and Experience: Required: Bachelors Degree in appropriate related field. Must have a record of successful full-time teaching experience or have demonstrated a successful student teaching placement/internship.
Preferred: Masters Degree. Autism post-baccalaureate certificate. BCBA, BCaBA, RBT certification, or other specific training in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Work Schedule: 10M – 217 Days – 7.25 Hrs. Salary Scale: Teacher Special Requirements: Must hold or be eligible for Va. Teacher License w/ endorsement in Special Ed Adapted Curriculum or Special Ed Intellectual Disabilities FLSA Status: Exempt

Physical Conditions: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted, and other physical activities are required. Movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals, regular stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching and significant pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions are also required. Must be able to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Attendance at meetings outside the normal duty hours is often required.
