Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Marine Science, or related science field. One (1) year of full-time related research experience. Experience in water quality monitoring and related laboratory and field procedures, including analysis of nutrient concentrations. Experience synthesizing large data sets into figures and reports. Command of statistical analyses. Experience with extracting and quantifying viruses in wastewater samples.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Instructional Support Assistant will work in the Gobler laboratory under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Gobler. The incumbent will be isolating nucleic acids from aqueous samples and performing digital PCR analyses of aqueous samples. This will be in support of a wastewater based epidemiology project, tracing microbes in wastewater samples. Additional work will include processing similar samples from surface waters.
Duties:
- Assist with isolate nucleic acids from aqueous samples.
- Assist with the use of digital PCR analyses on aqueous samples.
- Assist with field sampling.
- Laboratory processing of field sampling.
- Assist with input, organization & data management.
- Write reports and analyze data.
- Conduct general laboratory and equipment maintenance and inventory.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Duties:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
