Job Description Summary
The Graduate Resident Director (GRD) role is a LIVE-IN position that provides administrative and student staff supervision assistance to one of the four Continuing Student-only residential areas under the purview of the Office of Residence Life and First Year Experience. Under the supervision of an Area Coordinator, the GRDs will provide services for specific program initiatives, safety and security procedures, and other directives as assigned.
Responsibilities
Supervision • Co-supervision, training, evaluation, and selection of 4 Resident Advisors. • Holds weekly staff meetings. • Assists in the design and implementation of intensive fall and winter trainings for Student Staff. • Monitors expenditures from programming budgets
Administration and Building Management • Assists with check in and check out process for area • Participates in weekly staff and individual meetings with supervisor • Participates in once-per-semester Student Affairs Division meetings • Conducts health and safety inspections in area each semester and as needed • Assists with occupancy management processes for area • Shares responsibility for on-call duty coverage, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day including holidays (tentative) • Maintains regular office hours each week • Manages student psychological or behavioral issues/crises in conjunction with supervisor and other campus departments • Addresses facilities issues with appropriate staff members in and out of department • Closely manages room and building access rights for area • Completes semester and year end reports as requested by departmental leadership
Student Conduct • Adjudicate administrative hearings known as “community conversations” for Chapman University students who have allegedly violated policy • Generates all conduct letters for administrative hearings • Monitors and maintains Student Conduct files via Advocate in a timely manner • Works with Residence Life and First Year Experience team to identify behavior trends and address them through programming and education
Student Support and Development • Counsels students on personal and academic issues and refers to the other campus departments when appropriate • Addresses community concerns •Confronts policy violations in the residence halls •Stays informed of student development theory, trends, and research to inform professional practice
Required Qualifications
Requirements: • Must be matriculated in a graduate degree program with regular graduate standing; • Enrolled in either 4.5 units of graduate coursework for credit or; • Enrolled in Thesis or Dissertation; • Maintain a cumulative graduate grade point average of at least 3.25.
Desired Qualifications
• Enrollment in the Attallah College of Educational Studies’ Masters in Leadership Development, Higher Education track cohort. • Previous undergraduate or graduate experience in Residence Life or related area
