Job Description: The Staff Accountant supports the Controller and Associate Controller in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Accounting Department. Understands institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and restrictions. Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in executing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature. Manages financial data and ensures integrity and accuracy. Monitors records of past and present operations. May serve as project leader on special projects. Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field plus at least 2 years of experience in accounting or a related field.

Essential Functions:
- Perform bank reconciliations for multiple bank accounts.
- Prepare monthly journal entries including, but not limited to bookstore charges,
department transfer requests, credit card charges, dining services charges, payroll,
cash transactions, etc.
- Prepare weekly journal entries to record non-student-related deposits submitted by
the Bursar's office.
- Work closely with the accounts payable team to issue stop payments, perform check
inquiries, and retrieve supporting documentation as requested
- Escalate any discrepancies in a timely manner to the appropriate department or
supervisor, ensure follow-up until issue resolution.
- Maintain fixed asset system and prepare monthly/quarterly analysis including
reconciliation of fixed assets and recording of related depreciation expense.
- Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, including but not limited to accrual
accounts, prepaid accounts, receivable accounts, and deferred revenue accounts.
- Create general ledger accounts in the accounting system as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual Form 990
- Assist with the preparation of the annual year-end financial audits and 403 (b) audit.
- Interact with external auditors and assist with audit inquires.
- Supervise student workers.
- Complete special projects and ad hoc reports as needed.
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of matters relating to accounting and finance, including government
regulations, and accepted internal financial control practices.
- Understanding of compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Demonstrated diplomatic leadership and interpersonal, communication and relationship
building skills necessary to working proactively across the University, both horizontally and vertically
- Ability and competence in implementing and managing financial systems.
- Ability to work with great autonomy and exercise independent judgement.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Takes initiative and proactively works with accounting team and University community to
ensure clear communication and responsiveness to inquiries
- Demonstrated personal qualities of integrity and credibility.

- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field,
and at least 2 years of experience in accounting or related field. Experience in a
higher educational setting is a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products. Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains,
PowerCampus, Transact, and/or similar software a plus.
