Provides executive leadership directing a broad-based multi-sectioned office responsible for divisionwide communications, media relations, and public requests for information; develops, manages, supervises, evaluates, and modifies all activities, programs, projects, personnel, and physical and fiscal resources of the office; is responsible and accountable for strategic planning and outcomes.
Required
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master's degree in journalism, media relations, communication, education, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
Eight (8) years of progressive experience in developing and managing complex multimedia communication programs.
Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, methods, materials, and trends related to communication management, public school system policies, and communication outreach programs.
Knowledge of K-12 education systems and the unique challenges and opportunities associated with educational communication.
Knowledge of FOIA/FERPA regulations and handling public information requests.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of available communication technologies, print and non-print, including publishing, graphic design, broadcast and web-based media, social media platforms, and media monitoring tools.
Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
Ability to engage strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the adeptness to anticipate potential communication issues and develop proactive solutions.
Ability to supervise and lead with the capacity to inspire and motivate a team.
Ability to manage the fiscal, physical, and human resources necessary to carry out the function and programs of the office to which assigned.
Ability to conduct complex administrative studies.
Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with personnel assigned to schools, departments, public entities, and citizens.
Ability to exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
