The Darden School of Business has an exciting opportunity for a part-time (average of 25 hours per week) IT Technician to support our campus in Rosslyn, Virginia. This role will be based at Sands Family Grounds (SFG) in Rosslyn, Virginia, our state of the art facility with expansive views of the capital region and state-of-the-art classrooms, offices and event space.
The IT Technician will support Darden’s programs to ensure the best IT support for students, faculty and staff. This includes consultative and technical support services to faculty, staff and students to ensure timely problem resolution, system/data access and optimal system performance. This position will also provide application, operating system, computer hardware, network, and printing support to the clients at the school in a timely manner.
In addition to providing IT support, this position may provide AV/classroom support as needed. Travel to Charlottesville, VA for periodic training is required.
This position requires working primarily on weekends and evenings.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Support client requests in a timely manner via walk ups, email, chat, and phone in a timely manner with the goal of resolving all assigned requests within 4 hours.
- Provide excellent customer support to the faculty, staff and students of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in the Rosslyn location.
- Communicate complex technical information to novice computer users; diagnose and resolving common desktop software, hardware and communications issues including the ability to use enterprise troubleshooting tools.
- Manage assigned tickets and seek assistance from the department supervisors as needed for assistance or escalation.
- Follow established procedures for inventory accountability and control.
- Create and edit PowerShell scripts to facilitate the automatic installation of software and apply configuration settings.
- Work with technology vendors to attain warranty parts and repairs.
- Use established imaging technology to ensure that all builds conform to established guidelines.
- Communicate complex technical information to novice computer users; diagnose and resolving common desktop software, hardware and communications issues including the ability to use enterprise troubleshooting tools.
- Provide basic application and system training for users.
- Regularly work toward specific team goals and assist clients in achieving their teams'goals.
- Assist as needed with daily AV requests, including powering and monitoring equipment, troubleshooting issues, securing and installing portable equipment as required. Performing equipment breakdown and storage as required.
- Assist in maintaining and monitoring audiovisual equipment, software, and cloud resources.
- Assist in training faculty and staff to utilize AV resources available to them.
Hourly rate: $35.00 per hour

Professional experience and education:
- High School degree required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline preferred.
- At least one year of experience required. Three years of experience preferred.
- Possess thorough knowledge of information technology concepts and terminology; desktop OS and supported software applications; network fundamentals; IP protocol and fundamental troubleshooting techniques.
- A+ or Microsoft MCSA certification strongly preferred.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting.
- Experience with Microsoft intune technologies or equivalent.
- Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of audio visual/television and computer systems is essential
- Ability to work independent of supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication skills to convey technical guidance and information to clients.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of computer expertise.
- Ability to prioritize shifting projects and initiatives in a fast- paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and presentation skills.
- Strong coaching/teaching skills.
- Experience working in an academic environment preferred.
