Job Summary
Under general supervision, to perform skilled heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related work in the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration, fixtures, appliances, components, and equipment, and manual and automated environmental control systems; to perform skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled work in other building trades, as assigned; and to perform related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Positions assigned to this class spend the majority of their working time performing journey-level work as maintenance HVAC Technician. Incumbents are assigned to perform duties independently or as a team member in other trades, as the need arises. Incumbents at this level are expected to plan assigned work and to identify material and parts, which are not in the departmental inventory for purchase authorization of the supervisor. Incumbents perform work which has considerable variation and which requires the application of judgment in the selection of appropriate work methods, material, procedures, and safety precautions. Incumbents receive general instructions when tasks are assigned and ore expected to inspect the work site and complete the project in a safe workmanlike manner, which complies with district and regulatory standards unless significant unanticipated problems are encountered. Incumbents are expected to refer to their crew lead worker or supervisor matters, which would create an unsafe environment for students, staff, and themselves and/or would be perceived as deviation from policy and procedure. Incumbents designated as a small project crew leaser are assigned to assign, check, guide, and correct work of crewmembers. Position in this class are distinguished from the lead trades classes in that the lead positions have as a regular and continuing assignment the responsibility to assign, check, guide, and correct work, and train crew memb
Requirements / Qualifications
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and supplemented by specialized training in electrical theory and practice, which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background four years semi-skilled to skilled experience in the HVAC trade experience performing institutional heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver's license. Possession of CFC Universal License, which may be obtained during the first four months of employment.
