Johnson’s Career Management Center prepares MBA students from both the residential and executive programs for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Johnson Residential MBA & MSBA Career Services, with a dotted line to the Senior Director of Career Management at Cornell Tech, the Career Advisor will support business students in the Johnson Cornell Tech MBA Program (including 1 +1Tech Program students) during their time on the Cornell Tech campus.
The Career Advisor will serve as a functional and industry specialist in the tech industry advising diverse MBA students pursuing a variety of career paths within that industry and beyond. Year-round coaching duties may include advising on resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing skills, job search strategies, and U.S. work authorization policies and immigration trends. Knowledge of technology and related industries, including emerging trends, will be very important given the student’s interest.
This role will work closely with the Ithaca CMC team (including the Ithaca Tech Career Advisor). The position will also coordinate with the Cornell Tech Career Management team, particularly around employer outreach, company visits, campus events, and logistics. In addition to working with students, this role will also include corporate engagement to strengthen relationships with the Johnson Cornell Tech and 1+1 Tech MBA programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 3 – 5 years of work experience in a corporate or university setting.
- Experience working with international students or experience demonstrating intercultural communicative competency.
- Familiarity with U.S. immigration policies and trends affecting MBA level graduates.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.
- Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.
- Successful track record of driving results and with high levels of client satisfaction.
- Comfortable working with both high levels of autonomously and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated understanding of MBA recruiting environment and cycle.
- Willingness to continuously examine processes and seek improvements.
- Familiarity with MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An MBA degree or equivalent.
- 5 or more years in a corporate setting, MBA career management, or MBA student services role.
- Experience coaching and mentoring MBAs and/or graduate-level students.
- Experience developing and executing orientation programs, career development curriculum, stand-alone job search skill development seminars, peer coaching programs, and/or career/leadership skills courses.
- Familiarity with a range of student-centered pedagogical approaches to learning and new skill development.
- Understanding of MBA program rankings and key career services metrics.
- Familiarity with traditional MBA career pathways and current job market.
- Familiarity with common career services technologies/ CRMs / edTech platforms, such as: 12Twenty, Canvas, Qualtrics, Vmock, MBA Exchange, and Salesforce.
- Experience in corporate relationship development and maintenance.
