Position Summary
Monmouth University is seeking applications for two Radio Dispatchers in the University Police department.
The candidate would be expected to: receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police and fire service, emergency ambulance service, information and after hours calls; determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures; enter necessary information in the CAD system; relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification.
This is an in-person; on-campus; non-remote position.

Ability to complete Dispatch Desk reports and other related reports. Must be reliable, able to monitor several radios and telephones concurrently, remain calm under pressure and be able to communicate effectively with students, employees, and the general public.
Must have excellent customer service skills. Ability to work on all shifts (standard work week is 40 hours, standard shifts are 8 hours), during various hours, including weekends and holidays. May be required to work overtime as needed.
Able to remain seated for long periods at a console. Understand telephone conversations over a telephone or radio.
Ability to work, organize and operate with a high level of efficiency under pressure and extreme stress to effectively handle multiple, differing tasks simultaneously. Able to use multiple pieces of technology and software applications to make critical decisions that affect campus-wide response and reaction.
Ability to manage downtime with self-initiated training, communications refreshers, and at times, limited supervision.
The final candidate must complete a background check. Training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with public contact, customer service, or clerical responsibilities which demonstrate the ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time.
Associate’s degree, two years of college, trade school, or equivalent education
Bachelor’s degree highly preferred;
Higher Education public safety experience is a plus.
Experience and commitment to working with and supporting diverse communities.
