SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Principal Technologist provides production system operations and maintenance (O&M) support for end-users, applications, infrastructure, platforms, or network services, serving as an escalation point for complex issue. They serve in an expert/lead technical role and may also work on one or more projects of moderate to high complexity as the technology subject matter expert and/or technical consultant. When involved with a project team, acts in a consultative manner and provides technical subject matter expertise, system design, administration, and technical support. Works on tasks and projects, or supports issues that involve a moderate to high degree of risk or may impact enterprise-wide performance and makes use of the individual's high level of knowledge within one or more areas of specialty.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Troubleshoots existing information systems, application, middleware, or networks to identify errors or deficiencies. Brainstorms possible solutions and evaluates alternatives against decision criteria.
- Leads and coordinates the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel or service provider personnel. Guides vendors during the problem resolution process as needed.
- Provides technical expertise across business functions. Identifies opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies.
- Serves as a consultant, trusted advisor and, as necessary, escalation point (Tier 3) for issues.
- May partner with leadership to help define and communicate the long-term technology strategy and planning for the enterprise.
- Assists and/or may lead in the development and analysis of source selection strategies.
- Works with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy and architecture.
- Provides project managers with technical consultation and advice, enabling quick response to inquiries related to the program/project.
- Provides technical analyses to help define, assess and monitor the technical aspects of the program/project or services.
- Designs innovative solutions using new technologies. Recommends short-term alternatives when appropriate. Proposes designs at key milestone events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent plus 7+ years of relevant work experience or 11+ years of relevant technical experience,preferably with substantial experience in a project leadership or Subject Matter Expert capacity, required to satisfy education and experience requirements
- ITIL Certification (or equivalent)
MINIMUM KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- AWS - Lambda, Dynamo DB, Elastic Beanstalk, S3, Kinesis, SNS, SQS App Dynamics
- Jenkin automation and DevOps skills
- Development skills using Java, J2EE, Oracle PL/SQL, Unix Shell Script, Python Script
- MS-SQL, MySQL, Oracle DB skills and development of writing script
- Administering and configuring JBoss, WebSphere, WebLogic application servers
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated.
- Must possess working experience utilizing the ITIL Framework for Incident, Change, Problem, and Release Management
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Development skills on Informatica MDM, Informatica PIM, Data Warehouse, Data Analysis, modeling and profile using IDQ & Oracle SQL, Oracle Enterprise Data Quality technologies are a plus
- Data Transformation, Data Standardization & Enrichment, MDM Hub configuration, IDD and BE configuration, Data masking and Data Migration are a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or other related field plus 9+ years of experience
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
- SAFe Agile (or equivalent)
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed remotely.
- May require travel up to 20% of the time
- Requires on –call status
- After hours and periodic shift work may occasionally be required
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $113,200 - $146,664. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
