Position Summary and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Prepare and organize supplies, materials, solutions, and equipment for Organic Chemistry laboratories.
Assist faculty and student interns in the laboratory with teaching students how to conduct experiments.
Assist with equipment and reagents for demonstrations.
Take down the lab after the completion of the class.
Clean and store equipment.
Manage chemical waste collection and disposal in the lab.
Maintain order and cleanliness in the lab.
Research products/prices and place orders for teaching laboratories.
Coordinate usage and location of laboratory equipment.
Maintain the chemical inventory and restock general use consumables.
Meet with faculty to discuss planning and implementation of laboratory protocols. Research, test, and revise protocols as time allows.
Be present until the completion of afternoon labs and for one 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. lab per week.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry desired or equivalent training and/or experience.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques in organic chemistry including preparation of solutions;
Ability to work safely with chemicals and proper disposal of chemicals as necessary;
Computer literacy desirable;
Ability to problem solve during stressful situations;
Ability to effectively manage deadlines and multiple, competing priorities.
