SUMMARY
Prepares non-standard computer numerical control (CNC) programs for operation of various CNC machines including operation in three axes simultaneously. Uses special software to model components and to program CNC machines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs CNC programming for most of production equipment within the company’s production facilities. Transfers product design criteria into machine requirements.
Is responsible to develop complex or revise non-standard CNC programming routines for full utilization of CNC lathe, mill or electrical discharge machines including machining operations in three axes simultaneously.
Utilizes a comprehensive knowledge of optional computer control parameters, CNC machine functions and capabilities, of mathematics applied to three axes programming, a broad knowledge of programming techniques used for a variety of CNC machines and have ability to load software for CNC computer.
Plans type, sequence and cycles of CNC machining operations including tooling necessary to complete assignment with optimum machining conditions.
Develops complete or revise non-standard program routines for efficient CNC machining operations including three axes simultaneously.
Conduct complete tooling design reviews to simplify tooling methods, reduce design, manufacture and operating time and cost, or utilize new materials for tooling applications.
Prepare shop process manuals and supervise the process validation portion of new program prove out.
Communicate effectively with the manufacturing engineers, development engineering, plant personnel, and individuals outside the company.
Assist in the training of operators on new CNC equipment and programs.
Assist in the design of jigs, tools, fixtures, and special equipment for CNC applications.
Create and implement CNC turning programs for single and twin spindle machines.
Calculate mathematical definition of parts, develop machining sequences and paths, designate cutting tools and holding fixtures, and prepare drawings and instructions for machine setup and operation.
Recommend new and assist in development of programming routines for computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements. Review all computer dimensional and graphic output of programs for errors prior to release to shop, observe initial machine operations for program adequacy, and make necessary program corrections.\
Make frequent contact outside own department to coordinate efficient CNC machining and to resolve CNC programming problems with manufacturing, engineering, quality control and tooling where above average poise, tact and skill are required.
Operate computer aided designing and machining system (CAD / CAM) including on-line data terminal and PC-based equipment. Uses third-party software programs to prepare machine operation simulation runs and minimize crashes, scraps, down time, and improve overall machine productivity. Leads efforts with new machines/software and the development, implementation and documentation within department.
Inputs necessary production ERP system data and support ERP system requirements as necessary.
