Position Description
As the Senior Manager of OpenStack Private Cloud Fabric at GEICO, you will be responsible for overseeing the architecture, development, and management of our advanced private cloud systems. This role demands strategic leadership in transitioning our private cloud infrastructure towards enhanced operational excellence and innovation. You will play a pivotal role in building and steering a team of cross-functional engineers towards developing and enhancing technologies central to our private cloud ecosystem. You will be responsible for leading and driving the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the speed of delivery products and unlock new engineering capabilities. This role is uniquely positioned at the intersection of hardware engineering and software development, focused on creating advanced solutions within our data centers. This leader will directly influence the design and development of OpenStack as the internal cloud backbone, oversee the transition from proprietary hypervisor systems and expose self-service cloud provisioning capabilities for IaaS and PaaS engineering teams.
Position Responsibilities
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and architects focused on OpenStack, VMware, and other cloud technologies.
• Oversee the transition and migration of workloads from VMware and Microsoft Hypervisors to OpenStack.
• Engage actively with open-source communities, contributing to and driving initiatives within the open hardware and cloud domains.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deploy high-performance computing solutions utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Establish and enforce best practices, quality standards, and key performance metrics to ensure continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Develop and Manage budgets, project timelines, and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects, ensuring effective and timely execution.

Qualifications
• Extensive knowledge and practical experience with OpenStack, VMware and Metal as a Service (MaaS).
• Strong background in cloud computing technologies and concepts, particularly in private cloud environments.
• Proven track record of technical leadership in hardware engineering and cloud infrastructure.
• Deep expertise in system and software design, especially in open-source and high-performance compute environments.
• Experience with orchestration and automation tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Knowledge of Open Compute Project (OCP) and open firmware specifications is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in working with KVM and Metal as a Service platforms and services
• Demonstrated ability to lead and implement complex IT solutions on a large scale
• Deep knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, including system administration and scripting
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security (TCP/IP, HTTP, load balancing, etc.)
• Experience with Operating Systems design, deployment and debugging especially in Linux and Windows operating environments
• Hands-on experience with configuring and integration of cloud storage technologies such as fiber channel storage, SAN, Software Defined Storage like Ceph, MINIO etc.
• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, with a proven track record of overcoming technical challenges
• Effective communication skills, capable of building strong relationships with team members, stakeholders, and external partners
Required Experience
• 10+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial role leading high-performing engineering teams.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience with OpenStack cloud environments and hardware automation.
• 5+ years of significant experience building scalable, fault-tolerant, and robust products and platforms.
• 5+ years of hands-on work experience supervising 10+ personnel in a technical environment
• 5+ years of experience with systems architecture and design
• 3+ years of experience leading and managing a software development team
• Strong project management skills, proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Desired Experience
• 5+ years of leading infrastructure or OpenStack deployment in a large-scale, mission-critical environment
• 5+ years of hands-on work experience supervising personnel in a technical environment
• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies and concepts (Saas, Paas, IaaS, etc)
• Proven ability to concentrate and demonstrate a capacity for learning technical concepts and adapting to new technologies quickly
Sensitivity: Company-Internal
• Experience in modern software development methodologies or implementing infrastructure automation solutions.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
• Industry related certification highly desirable

Annual Salary
$115,000.00 - $261,500.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
