Position Summary?? 

??GEICO is seeking an Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime database platforms.  You will help drive our insurance business transformation by creating a modern database platform built on open source tools such as PostgreSQL and Cassandra.  You will be part of our tech transformation with engineering excellence as its mission, and a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement at its core.

Position Responsibilities? 

??As an Engineer, you will: 

• Build a scalable and resilient database platform and components
• ?Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across your team
• ?Utilize programming languages including Python, Golang and SQL

• Leverage open-source and cloud-native technologies such as PostgreSQL and Kubernetes
• Work with senior engineers to define, create, and support reusable application components and patterns
• Share best practices and improve processes within and across the team

• Solve difficult problems, learn new technologies, and push the boundaries of what is possible

?Qualifications? 

• Natural inquisitiveness and a penchant for asking the right questions
• Basic understanding of relational and noSQL databases such as PostgreSQL and Cassandra
• Experience with at least one modern language such as Golang, Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design 
• Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts
• Basic understanding of RESTful services
• Basic understanding of micro-service architecture
• Basic understanding of monitoring tools  
• Knowledge of developer tooling such as Github
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills  
• Strong oral and written communication skills? 
• Well-rounded experiences outside of the classroom with different technologies, resulting in projects that demonstrate strong engineering skills and abilities

Experience? 

• ??Professional software development experience or internship experience 

Education? 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems,

or equivalent education or work experience?

Annual Salary

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
