Position Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Development Services & Permits Division facilitates safe and responsible development, construction, and occupancy of buildings and properties in our community. In 2023, the division issued over 57,000 permits with a construction value of $11.15B. In addition, the division conducted over 41,000 inspections and almost 85,000 plan reviews. We strive to provide prompt and courteous service to our customers, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

The Acceptance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the acceptance for Harris County maintenance of publicly dedicated infrastructure constructed with private funds from the development community within Harris County.
JOB DUTIES:
Prepare forms for approvals.
Prepare Court items.
Review plats, plans, lab reports, and other construction documents to ensure they have met all requirements for acceptance of Harris County maintenance.
Work with Platting and Asset Log to ensure proper procedures are completed.
Work with Inspectors to schedule inspections.
May be required to drive a county vehicle to various work sites.
May be subject to working early morning, evening, weekend, and emergency events as required.
May work outside in all kinds of weather and be exposed to dust, dirt, construction fumes, etc During emergency response situations for our community, such as hurricanes or floods, the position may be tasked with additional duties. Requirements
Education:
A high school diploma is required.
Experience:
A minimum two (2) years of experience/background in engineering related design, construction, real property, or closely related field.
OR
A Bachelor's or Associates Degree from an accredited university with major coursework in Engineering, Architecture, or other closely related field.
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to understand and review civil construction plans and documents.
The ability to read construction drawings related to all phases of land development. (Drainage, paving, traffic, etc.)
Knowledge of relevant regulatory agencies and their impact on project development.
Knowledge of civil construction materials, methods, practices, and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, the public, industry representatives, and other government agencies.
Basic computer skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to learn department-supported application programs shortly after hire.
Ability to produce reports using databases, spreadsheets, presentations, and other software.
This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Subject to early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work as required.
Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Preferences
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Science or Construction Management from an ABET accredited university.
Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in engineering-related design, construction management, real property, or a closely related field.
Prior experience working on Harris County Engineering Department roadway design projects.
Prior government experience.
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, using proper grammar and spelling.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, the public, industry representatives, and other government agencies.
Must be attentive to detail and have effective problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage a project with minimal supervision.
Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service skills
Ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external teams, with a flexible approach and the ability to adapt to changing conditions and priorities.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access), and the ability to produce reports using databases, spreadsheets, presentations, and other software.
Requires a high level of confidentiality, judgment, personal responsibility, and dependability.
General Information
Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week
Hybrid schedule: Three days in the office and two days working from home.
Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:
Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event).
This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs., frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs.
