Job Summary:
This position serves as an Electrical Systems Engineer directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Electrical System Engineering Manager. The candidate will serve as a System Engineer within the SEA 05V Electrical Group.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM)
Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Nimitz (CVN 68) and/or Ford (CVN 78) operational experience.
Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request
Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)
Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review
Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters
Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide technical recommendations
Develop formal presentations to brief to senior officials.
Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit proposals for changes
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline
15+ years of experience completing electrical engineering work with maritime vessels, preferably with the United States Navy Aircraft Carriers
Must be willing to travel to Newport News if requested
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Marine, Nuclear or Systems engineering from an accredited university
Worked with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard electrical systems
Experience working with technical authority and program managers in an engineering role.
Strong writing and communication skills
