Job Overview
The Development Associate (DA) plays a key role within the Development team and the Office of Advancement as a self-directed officer; and supports the Medicine and Health team in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospects, including individuals, foundations and corporations.
The DA works closely in support of the Senior Director of Development, Medicine and Health, and the frontline Medicine and Health team in a partnership aimed at growing talent and building a donor pipeline for frontline development officers and ensuring the relevant frontline fundraisers get both the high level administrative and strategic support they need to properly maintain an outward focus on building relationships and closing gifts. They are responsible for portfolio review, maintenance, and strategy; identifying and researching potential donors to the university; and providing full-spectrum support to frontline development officers.
The DA provides the administrative support for philanthropic engagement of donors and prospects across the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Health and helps execute school-based Board meetings and donor-facing events.
Further, they are responsible for the day-to-day fulfillment of prospect research inquiries and requests in support of Georgetown University’s fundraising initiatives; and provide accurate, timely and comprehensive analysis and information about prospective donors to the University.
The DA also engages in the identification and reporting of new prospective donors for placement in fundraiser portfolios, using weekly gift reports and other data pulled from the Salesforce.com Donor Management platform at Georgetown called GU360; and coordinates with the offices of the Deans of each school on the process for acknowledging gifts above the threshold for Dean recognition.
They provide general development support for self and small number of major gift officers, including budgets and expense reports, staff solicitation visits, weekly gift reports, and donor information; entering contact reports and prospect strategies in donor profiles; and administer the gift process: entering and tracking asks, proposals, Gift Agreements/Statement of Intents, and gift transmittal forms.
The diversity of the DA’s workload requires teamwork, flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, external relations focus, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments. This position requires tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with members of the University community and the University's donors.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, Medicine and Health, the Development Associate works collaboratively with all Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) advancement staff, GUMC faculty and staff; and serves as a front-line representative to the public as well as the University community.
They have a potentially significant impact on the success of the fundraising activities of the Office of Advancement; and as courteous and professional member of the Advancement team, they positively affect donors, prospective donors, and other alumni. Communication is via phone, written correspondence, and personal interactions with both GUMC and University staff as well as external constituents; and periodic representation of Georgetown University at events on and off campus.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1 to 3 years of work experience - preferably in a development/fundraising environment
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as Google Suites
- Broad knowledge of and experience in the use of research materials, including the internet and online informational databases
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively, at times under tight deadlines
- Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent attention to detail, the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative as appropriate
- Strong organization skills, as highly developed oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding and practice a high standard of confidentiality and ethical information collection
- Strong collaborative and project management skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
- Interest in working at a university, academic health care setting, or scientific field
- Ability to assimilate data, communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment and discretion and work at a highly independent level
- Ability to interact cordially with a variety of professional individuals and external publics
- Ability to handle a large number of complex and diverse tasks requiring in-depth analysis and quality performance
