Position Summary
The Employee Health nurse will coordinate and provide direct and indirect care to ensure the health, wellness, and safety of all staff working at Mary’s Center. They will collaborate with Mary's Center's Employee Health provider, other Mary’s Center staff, and outside agencies to provide quality care for staff in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and accreditation standards.
Reportability
This position will report directly to the Director of Nursing Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Develop, implement, and maintain methods of record keeping and documentation for employee health and volunteer records. Provide records to staff for special audits or on a requested basis.
- Responsible for ensuring staff complies with Employee Health clearance requirements at onboarding, throughout the year, and for retroactive record reviews as needed.
- Coordinate and schedule prospective employee meetings for health document intake.
- Validate and provide clearance for new onboarding staff, providing preventative vaccines as required by jurisdiction.
- Provide employees with necessary health education on TB testing and screening and referral instructions.
- Ensure safe clinical practice in the administration and evaluation of nursing functions, such as administering injectable medications.
- Coordinate, plan, and implement yearly TB screening and flu vaccination campaign, maintain records.
- Coordinate and perform yearly N95 fit testing for all staff, maintain records.
- Coordinate with on-site staff to ensure appropriate PPE including N95 available at each site.
- Follow policies and/or procedures, in coordination with Employee Health Provider, to assess, counsel, schedule for evaluation, review labs, and develop plan and follow-up for work -related injuries or exposures including but not limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens and Airborne Pathogens including COVID-19.
- Work with People Department to expand staff knowledge of EAP services.
- Work with People Department to expand staff wellness and health measures including but not limited to Staff health incentives.
- Maintain staff confidentiality at all times, adhering to HIPAA standards. Record and maintain all pertinent health data on employees per HIPAA guidelines.
- Follow policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure consistency and departmental effectiveness as well as improve health outcomes of staff.
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-services, committees, and continuing education opportunities.
- Order supplies, pharmaceuticals, and durable medical equipment related to employee health.
- Collaborate with Employee Health provider, People Department, and other related departments to ensure that needs are met for staff safety, health promotion and wellness.
- Perform other duties determined as necessary by the Vice President of Nursing and/or the Director of Nursing Services.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities –
- Registered Nurse, B.S. in Nursing preferred.
- Must be licensed to practice nursing in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
Language Requirement – Ability to communicate effectively in English is required. Additional language proficiency or fluency preferred.
Physical Demands – Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Work Environment – Mostly in a typical office and/or home setting with a quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluids which require the practice of Universal Precaution procedures. Opportunity to work a hybrid schedule – remotely & onsite, as needed.
