B&A is looking for an SQL / SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join a contract with a federal government client in support of an important mission. As a vital member of our organization, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our SQL / SQL Server databases. Your role will involve designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems, ensuring their reliability and scalability to meet the needs of our dynamic environment. You will collaborate closely with our development and IT teams to optimize database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement efficient solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement SQL / SQL Server database solutions to support business requirements.
- Create and maintain database schemas, tables, indexes, and views.
- Ensure database design meets performance, scalability, and security requirements.
- Monitor database performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Tune SQL queries, indexes, and database configurations to enhance performance.
- Implement best practices for database performance optimization.
- Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies.
- Perform regular backups and ensure data integrity.
- Implement disaster recovery plans and conduct regular testing.
- Implement security measures to protect sensitive data.
- Manage user access and permissions to ensure compliance with security policies.
- Conduct regular security audits and address vulnerabilities.
- Monitor database systems for errors, performance issues, and potential security risks.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as database optimization, data purging, and index rebuilding.
- Respond to alerts and incidents in a timely manner.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Provide training and support to other team members on database-related tasks and technologies.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a SQL / SQL Server Database Administrator or similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server database administration, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in SQL querying and performance tuning.
- Experience with database security, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Desired Skills
- Microsoft SQL Server certification (e.g., MCSA: SQL Server, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics).
- Experience with other database systems such as MySQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Amazon RDS).
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation tasks.
Security Clearance
- Eligible to obtain a security clearance.
