The Merchandise Planning Manager will be owning the planning and business strategy for the Footwear and Accessories categories at Madewell. In this role, you will collaborate with Planning Leadership, Merchants and Allocators on preseason and in season plans to align on sales and inventory strategies. You will lead and manage the Merchandise Planning team in the development, analysis and revision of sales, inventory, markdowns and profit. You will play an active role partnering with planning peers and management in creating, updating, enhancing tools and process that supports financial integrity and allows for flexibility and innovation.
PRESEASON
Lead preseason sales, margin and inventory plans by department development, guiding direct reports in strategic initiatives. Analyze and report on previous quarter results; identify “missed sales” and growth drivers over prior year.
Summarize the opportunity and risk at divisional level as it relates to trend and financial metrics: initial mark-up, average unit retail, average unit cost, net margin dollars/rate.
Provide divisional/department level planning guidance to ensure style/sku adoption rate targets are achieved to drive selling profitability and productivity.
IN SEASON
Analyze the business on an on-going basis to understand core drivers; identify opportunities and risks and partner with leaders to respond appropriately
Initiate conversations with cross functional partners regarding potential risk or opportunities and suggested changes to course of action for both current and future quarters.
Lead planning team in monthly OTB forecast process; providing objectives by departments to assist in identifying sales trend opportunity for future quarters, validate stock-to-sales relationships, maximize receipt flow to improve turn, reconcile receipts and suggest pricing strategies to drive profitability.
Provide both qualitative and quantitative insights at seasonal hindsight and investment reviews, drawing conclusions to inform future product line architecture.
Manage, train, and develop team of varying Merchandise Planning levels
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
7+ years of merchandise planning experience; a total of 5-7 years of related experience in allocation, merchandising, financial planning, strategy, or business analytics.
Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Proven ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and influence others.
High level of conceptual creative ability. Strong product sense with proven experience in driving product assortments and partnering with divisional leaders to lead investment strategies that drive business
Strong management skills, attention to detail, problem solving, interpersonal and organizational skills – communication between functional groups is critical
Strong technical aptitude, including advanced competency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to quickly master new applications and systems.

Salary Range: $97,600.00 - $122,000.00
