The Towson University Police Department is currently accepting qualified applicants for a university Police Officer IV position to enforce State Laws and University regulations and perform a variety of Law Enforcement duties.
- Supervisory duties include assigning patrol responsibility and establishing work priorities; instructing, directing, and guiding personnel on a patrol shift; assisting in scheduling and managing day-to-day operations; assigning and reviewing work; monitoring and evaluating performance of subordinate personnel; and initiating disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Inspecting police and support personnel on patrol shift to ensure compliance with departmental policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Preparing, maintaining, and reviewing a variety of operational and administrative reports, logs and ledgers.
- Enforcing the laws of the State of Maryland; conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations; patrolling designated areas of campus to maintain a visible presence and enforce university parking regulation and determining appropriate course of action.
- This position is classified as ESSENTIAL personnel and candidates will be required to work various shifts including weekends and holidays.
- High School diploma or equivalent; certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police training commission within the last three (3) years and two (2) years of experience as a sworn police officer.
- Three (3) years of experience supervising police officers is preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland non-commercial class C or equivalent driver's license with no more than 5 points.
- Except for qualifications established by law additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills and abilities required for full-performance of the work of the job class may be substituted or the education or experience requirement one year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
- A criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, polygraph, and psychological evaluation are required for the hired candidate and the results my impact employment.
Starting salary at $68,568 annually, salary commensurate on experience and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
