We are recruiting a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant for a large non-profit organization based in Sacramento. Our client offers a hybrid work schedule (3 days, remote 2 days) and this is a part time position (4 hours/day, Monday-Friday). The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing all payroll functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in payroll processing, and maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have full cycle payroll processing, reconciliation, payroll tax experience and strong analytical skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process and manage the company’s payroll on a bi-weekly/monthly basis.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
Maintain and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer payroll-related questions.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing.
Prepare and submit necessary payroll tax reports and payments.
Collaborate with the HR department to ensure payroll accuracy and employee data integrity.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
Minimum of two years of experience in payroll accounting.
Strong understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws.
Proficiency in payroll software (Paylocity is preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
