Job Description

Allergan Aesthetics Biological Research is seeking a highly motivated and innovative candidate who will contribute to multi-disciplinary research in a highly collaborative environment. The successful candidate for this position will work independently and contribute to projects aimed at characterizing protein-based therapeutics. He/she will be developing and carrying out a variety of assays to evaluate the activity and functionality of therapeutic proteins. Strong knowledge and technical expertise in protein/enzyme characterization is preferred. This individual will organize, analyze, and interpret results, come forward with recommendations, or understanding of the results, and communicate and present in team meetings and reports. The ideal candidate will be able to propose and design assays and have exceptional troubleshooting skills. He/she will be collaborating extensively with other Research Associates and Scientists, while taking personal responsibility for the success of assigned tasks and projects.

Responsibilities:

Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.
Perform data analysis, write scientific reports, and provide presentations to multidisciplinary teams.
Work with cross-functional team members to accomplish the goals and requirements of the organization.
Innovate and implement new experimental protocols.
Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in his/her field.
Set and meet experimental timelines. Can multitask several projects.
Learn, understand, and master new experimental techniques, and function as a resource or mentor for others.
Routinely read and apply relevant scientific literature. Contribute to writing and conceptual framework of publications, presentations, and patents. Effectively organize and present scientific plans and data.
Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, laboratory notebook documentation, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug, and radioactive compounds, and GxP compliance where applicable.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree with approximately 5+ years of experience in industry laboratory setting -OR- Master’s degree with approximately 2+ years of experience in industry laboratory setting
Degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular/cellular biology, or other related discipline.
Strong knowledge and technical expertise in protein/enzyme characterization including SDS-PAGE, western bots, DLS/aggregation, HPLC (reverse phase/ size exclusion/ ionic), enzyme assays, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and fluorescence techniques

Preferred:

Strong skill in mass spectrometry, size-exclusion chromatography with multi-angle light scattering (SEC-MALS), surface plasmon resonance (SPR) RT-PCR, and mammalian cell culture is preferable, but not required.

Other Required Skills:

Broad experience in developing, performing, and troubleshooting a wide variety of analytical assays. Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work successfully in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment.
The position requires ability to work in biosafety cabinets for extended periods of time, observe/record deviations from expected outcomes, accurate record keeping, and adhere to lab safety standards/protocols.
Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.
Computer skills: working knowledge of MS-Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), graphing software (e.g., GraphPad prism) and basic understanding of statistical analyses is required.
