Job Overview
The Communications Manager works across the unit of Planning & Facilities Management (PFM) to increase awareness, understanding, and connection to PFM projects across the university. They work with the Office of Strategic Communications’ internal team to foster an internal culture of transparency and shared understanding.
They design strategic communication plans to effectively communicate university messaging around PFM strategic initiatives and construction projects
As well, they coordinate with PFM leadership and internal stakeholders across the university to ensure accurate and timely communications of university updates and positions to internal and external audiences. In doing so, they draft communications from the PFM unit - and from University leaders - to students, faculty, staff, and the Georgetown community.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Within the Office of Strategic Communication, the PFM Communications Manager serves as a deputy to the Director of Internal Communications and Operations Communications and effectively communicates and protects the university brand and position.
Through strategic planning and collaboration, they contribute to the university’s communications strategies by generating increased visibility and awareness of the PFM’s construction projects, initiatives, and goals.
As well, PFM Communications Manager supports the internal communications for departments within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer – specifically, University Information Services, Finance, Auxiliary Services, and Human Resources.
This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications or related field of study
- At least 3 to 4 years of experience in facilities management, public relations, journalism, broadcasting, higher education, non-profit institution or related area
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, good judgment, ability to work on deadline
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and flexibility
- Ability to exercise diplomacy and to manage a high-volume of communication initiative at the same time
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure with an eye for detail
- Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends
