The Janitorial & Maintenance Supervisor supervises the work activities performed by our janitorial, grounds and maintenance staff. This position oversees daily activities ensuring that all quality standards are met by making daily, personal rounds, assuring team members respond promptly, safely, and efficiently to all service requests. The supervisor's responsibilities include implementing cleaning schedules, scheduling staff shifts, monitoring staff attendance, reporting absences, and conducting staff performance reviews. To be successful as a janitorial and maintenance supervisor, you should demonstrate sound knowledge of various cleaning methods, building maintenance standards and excellent communication skills. Ultimately, an outstanding janitorial and maintenance supervisor will display effective leadership skills to ensure the timely completion of staffs’ janitorial and maintenance duties.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assign janitorial and maintenance duties to staff and regularly inspect their work to ensure that established standards are met.
- Issue cleaning supplies and equipment to janitorial staff as needed.
- Take inventory of all cleaning supplies and equipment and inform management when supplies are depleted.
- Assist with the screening and hiring of new job applicants.
- Provide training, guidance and performance feedback to janitorial and maintenance staff.
- Resolve conflicts between janitorial and maintenance staff in an efficient manner.
- Attend meetings and in-service training sessions as required.
- Conduct & manage monthly safety meetings and operational training to the janitorial staff.
- Perform all janitorial and maintenance duties necessary in instances of staff shortages.
- Communicate regularly with management regarding day & night operations.
- Assist department staff in scheduling preventative maintenance services
- Other related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of various cleaning methods and maintenance standards.
- Ability to multitask and adjust to changing schedules and priorities; maintain organization in a changing environment and maintain flexible attitude & approach towards assignments.
- Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
- Lifting and carrying heavy objects on level surfaces, ladders, and/or stairways.
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
- Communicates verbally in an effective, clear, and concise manner.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) highly preferred.
- Computer skills.
- Work in varying temperature environments (internal and external parts of the building).
- Ability to work 12pm-8:30pm
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Proven experience working as a Janitorial and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Understanding of safe work practices.
- Current valid California driver’s license.
- Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.

Pay range:
In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2024-2025 academic year. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels is $40.00 - $52.00 per hour. Within this broad range, we pay in accordance with what could be reasonably expected based on an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
