Job Abstract

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

The Panther is hiring for the following positions:

Managing Editor
Manage, oversee and edit half the newspaper,
upload daily to the website, contribute with
content and layout when needed, assist the
editor-in-chief with other administrative and
editorial tasks, work on weekly editorial with
EIC and opinions editor. Paid hours per week: 19 hours

News Editor
Assign weekly stories, manage writers, edit
news section, lay out three to six pages, tackle
breaking news and long-term stories. Paid hours per week:15

Web Editor
Publish content, coordinate with social media
manager and videographer to create cohesive
web presence, upload copyedited stories, check
stories that go online during the week. Paid hours per week: 8

Social Media Manager
Run Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, ensure
that web and print content is repackaged in an
engaging, fresh way for social media. Paid hours per week: 8

Copy Editor
Copyedit all stories (videos and cutlines) that
go online during the week, copyedit entire
paper on Sunday. Paid hours per week: 8

Staff Writer
Receive weekly assignments from section
editor, conduct interviews, write stories
(include preferred section: news/politics,
features/entertainment, or sports). Paid hours per week: 3

Staff Photographer
Receive weekly assignments from photo
editor, take on-site photos, upload photos to
Flickr with cutlines. Paid hours per week: 3

Must be dedicated to Panther news goals, be able to work within and meet deadlines.
