The EDP Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire production process of new books and reprints for the Press, ensuring high editorial and design standards, adhering to production schedules, and managing projects within the allocated budgets. Reporting to the Director of the Press, this role manages a portfolio of approximately 35-40 new titles and 75 reprints annually. Key responsibilities include supervising an in-house staff of four and managing a pool of external service providers, including printers, designers, typesetters, freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers.
The EDP Manager oversees the reprinting and restocking of backlist titles in conventional, digital, and print-on-demand formats, and ensures timely delivery of printer-ready files to file conversion providers and e-book vendors. They support the Marketing department's asset management for print catalogs, advertising, and all electronic marketing collateral, collaborating across departments to develop and maintain assets and features for the Press website.
Additionally, the EDP Manager participates in the design, production, proofing, and asset management for two seasonal catalogs and other print and electronic marketing initiatives. The EDP Manager is responsible for the organization, management, and trafficking of all book covers and marketing assets to vendors, platforms, and organizational archives.
The EDP Manager plays a vital role in Press management and planning, contributing to data management and information systems. They ensure the efficient production of print and digital publications, maintaining oversight of the entire production process from editing and design to final manufacturing.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for program management and oversight of day-to-day operations
- Responsible for daily program management throughout the program lifecycle
- Aligns deliverables to the program's outcome
- Meets with stakeholders to discuss program status and goals
- Manages the program budget. Develops proposals, negotiates and administers grants and contracts
- Supervises staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation
- Provides oversight of ongoing projects
- Interfaces with university departments, funding sources, outside organizations and state & government agencies
- Assesses program effectiveness and identifies areas of improvement
- Manages program documentation, data collection, and reporting
- Develops program goals and objectives
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND:
- 48 months of program development, program management or related experience
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 96 months of related experience.
Skills:
- Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Able to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations
- Able to effectively evaluate projects & programs and produce comprehensive reports
Departmental Preferences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Media Arts, Graphic Design, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and job-related experience.
- 5 or more years in print and digital publishing, 2 or more years in a supervisory role.
Supervision: Supervises Production Coordinator, Reprint Coordinator, 2 project editors, and Student Intern(s)
