Under general direction of the Payroll Services Coordinator, or designee, the Accounting Assistant IV, Payroll Technician/Benefits provides support to the Business Services Department in the areas of classified and certificated payroll functions, employee benefits, basic accounting and maintenance of fiscal records. Major duties include preparation of classified and certificated payrolls, processing voluntary deductions, accounting tasks associated with employee retirement benefits, reconciliation of insurance billings and ensuring accuracy throughout all payroll functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or GED; AND
- Eighteen (18) semester units of college-level, general accounting courses (*attach transcript); AND
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible, professional experience in keeping or reviewing accounting or fiscal records
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
SUBSTITUTIONS
Substitutions for meeting the minimum qualifications of this position are allowed, as follows:- Job-related, college-level education in accounting may be substituted for a maximum of two (2) years of professional experience on the basis of nine (9) semester units of college-level accounting for each year of experience.
- Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a one (1) year for each nine (9) semester unit basis.

Environment
Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may travel from site to site and may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Physical
This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and travel from site to site; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 25 pounds, including push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various College and meeting sites.
Vision
See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Initial salary placement for this position is from Step 1 to Step 4 depending on the amount of reasonably related experience. These jobs are Classified positions, Level 22, working full time, 40 hours per week, 12 months. These positions serve District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility. The current work schedule is Monday - Thursday 7:30 am – 5:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Work hours are subject to change depending on department needs.

A twelve-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the District. The District provides a contribution towards medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Vacation and sick leave are provided. PERS participation is required for retirement eligible employees. As a condition of employment candidates will be required to complete a live scan for fingerprint clearance and a Tuberculosis (TB) test/Tuberculosis Risk Assessment form developed by the State Department of Public Health.
