CHAPLAIN POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chaplain will provide pastoral, spiritual and case management oversight for Union Rescue Mission Christian Life Discipleship Program (CLDP).
CHAPLAIN CORE WORK PRINCIPLE:
Colossians 3:23 is the foundation of URM’s standard for employment, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.” The goal for each employee is to enrich and sustain a humble heart attitude; to enrich and sustain a mindset of serving others, treating them with kindness and truth; and to enrich and sustain a zealous desire for achieving work objectives without any ulterior motives or agendas.
CHAPLAIN ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepare and teach Bible Studies, devotions, and life skills classes for residents, clients, and guests.
Preach and teach in weekly Chapel gatherings at each facility, as requested.
Attend and lead weekly CLDP ministry meetings.
Conduct regular individual and group counseling sessions for CLDP residents.
Create Individualized Service Plans (ISP’s) for assigned CLDP caseload.
Maintain timely thorough case notes in Spero to aid in the overall support for CLDP residents.
Assist the CLDP Coordinators by conducting regular and formation meetings.
Responsible for timely crisis intervention and decision making that impacts the overall functioning of the residents and guests within our program(s).
Serve as an advocate and mediator with all work therapy departments for assigned caseload. ?
Serve as a liaison for professional services provided at URM (Union Rescue Mission), as needed.
Conduct staff training on spiritual matters and cultural competencies, as needed.
Teach in our Urban Ministry Institute.
Provide leadership while engaging in critical incidents with staff, residents, clients, and guests in applying program policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain relationships with ministry interns, volunteers, and partners.
Promote Christian virtues in all relationships throughout the Mission as described in Matt. 7:12, Ephesians 4:2-3, & Phil. 2:3-8. Teach and influence guests (Titus 2:2-8) to love in one accord for Christ and His kingdom (1Cor. 13:1-7).
Conduct other tasks and projects as assigned by the Director of Ministry.

Encourage guests in their faith and growth in Jesus Christ.
CHAPLAIN PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to see, hear, speak, and write clearly to communicate with employees, residents, clients and/or other guests.
Required manual dexterity for occasional reaching and lifting objects, and operating office equipment.

CHAPLAIN WORK ENVIRONMENT:
In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated.
Noise levels are considered low to moderate.
This position predominantly works indoors in a high traffic office setting.
Requirements
CHAPLAIN EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES:
Masters Level of Education in Theology or Social Work-related field (MDiv or MSW preferred).
Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of related ministry experience combined with completion of a recognized theological certificate such as TUMI can substitute for master’s level education.
3+ years (post-graduation) progressively responsible, related experience (pastoral staff, church staff, social services, community relations).
CHAPLAIN KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Basic skills in planning, organizing, communication/counseling, and supervisory/leadership skills.
A thorough knowledge of the behavior, character and emotional issues of the clients served at URM.
Function in a manner that respects the “Imago Dei” of all people to include the physical, emotional, cultural, and spiritual boundaries of others.
Proven ability to provide spiritual care that respects diversity with a focus on presenting the gospel with grace and compassion.
Ability to manage time, prioritize multiple tasks, and respond to emergencies.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Proven ability to lead by example in promoting a biblical model that is representative of URM’s Christian cultural values by having a humble heart attitude and treating others with kindness and truth including high emotional intelligence, and zealous in achieving work objectives without any personal agendas.
