POSITION: HES Art Teacher (0.8) FTE & WHS (0.2) FTE

Qualifications Required:

• Holds or is eligible for the Connecticut State Certification as an Art Teacher (K-12)

• Possesses a degree from an accredited college or university

• Possesses a strong background in various art forms, excellent instructional skills and a passion for fostering creativity and artistic expression with students ages 14-18

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

Reports to: High School Principal

Job Goal

• To foster creativity and artistic skills in students in grades 9-12

• To develop in each pupil an interest and ability for expressing himself/herself creatively in visual terms

• To develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations

• To discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art

• Contribute to a positive learning environment and inspire students to explore and appreciate the world of visual arts

Performance Responsibilities:

• Curriculum Development:

• Design and implement a well-rounded art curriculum that aligns with educational standards and encourages artistic exploration

• Create engaging lesson plans that cater to students with varying skill levels and interests

• Instruction and Demonstration:

• Deliver effective and dynamic art instruction across various mediums, such as drawing, painting, sculpture,digital media, and other forms of visual expression.

• Demonstrate techniques and provide constructive feedback to help students enhance their artistic skills.

• Classroom Management:

• Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters creativity, respect, and collaboration.

• Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.

• Student Assessment:

• Assess and evaluate student artwork through regular critiques, exams, and projects.

• Provide constructive feedback to guide students in their artistic development.

• Art Exhibitions and Showcases:

• Organize and curate art exhibitions or showcases to display students' work within the school or the community.

• Encourage students to take pride in their artistic achievements.

• Integration of Art History:

• Incorporate art history and cultural context into lessons, connecting artistic expression to broader historical and societal themes.

• Professional Development:

• Stay informed about current trends, techniques, and advancements in the field of art education.

• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

• Collaboration:

• Collaborate with other art teachers, faculty members, and departments to integrate art into cross-curricular activities.

• Participate in school-wide events and initiatives.

• Assessment and Evaluation:

• Assess student artwork through critiques, projects, and other evaluation methods.

• Offer constructive feedback to help students improve their artistic abilities.

• Professional Development:

• Stay current with developments in art education, instructional methods, and contemporary art trends.

• Attend workshops, conferences, or training sessions to enhance teaching skills.

• Collaboration:

• Collaborate with other art teachers, educators, and school staff to coordinate interdisciplinary projects or events.

• Work with colleagues to integrate art into other areas of the curriculum.

• Parental Communication:

• Maintain open and regular communication with parents regarding students' progress, achievements, and upcoming art-related activities.

• Conduct parent-teacher conferences and participate in school events to engage parents in the students' artistic education.

Terms of Employment:

• Salary and work year to be established by the Contract between the Weston Board of Education and the Weston Teachers Association.
