Job Abstract

Under administrative direction, provides the overall administration, direction, and management of public health nursing personnel, activities, and programs and may assume a broader leadership role in the management of the Public Health Department; promotes and preserves the health of the populations; collaborates in program planning and a service evaluation; directs nursing practices, data analysis, and business management and administration; assists the Public Health Officer in providing public health leadership for the entire community; and performs related duties as assigned.

Licensing and Certifications:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver’s License.

Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse in California.

Possession of a Certificate as a Public Health Nurse issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.

Must be eligible for State Skilled Professional Medical Personnel (SPMP) classification as defined by 42 CFR PART 432.

Possession of a CPR Certification.

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in nursing.

AND

Four (4) years of full-time increasingly responsible experience performing public health nursing work, which included at least two (2) years in an administrative, management, or supervisory capacity.

Completion of a Master’s degree in nursing or a related health field is preferred.

Additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted.
