The City of Cleveland Heights is seeking a Tractor Trailer Operator (18-wheel) for the Division of Refuse / Recycling. Responsibilities include the safe and effective operation of a tractor trailer to and from landfills and other facilities, operating other heavy equipment, and assisting laborers as needed. The individual will be required to perform daily maintenance of equipment and other duties as assigned. The individual will serve as a backup for the Refuse Truck Operator position. In addition, must be willing to respond to extreme emergency conditions as determined by the Public Works Director (i.e., snow, ice, wind or tree damage, etc.).

Primary responsibility is to safely operate a tractor-trailer to and from landfills and other facilities.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must possess a valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (Class A CDL), with an excellent driving record
• Two years of experience driving various types of vehicles in all climatic conditions
• Must be knowledgeable in the areas of traffic laws, rules and safety regulations
• Must be able to carry out verbal and written instruction
• Able to perform manual labor and the ability to safely lift approximately 90lbs independently
• Must be reliable and assist in all other department activities as requested
• Must have the ability to operate equipment, snowplows, salt trucks and related equipment
• Must be available for emergencies requiring overtime hours of work and 9 scheduled holiday makeup days
• Reliable attendance is essential
