Job Abstract

JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Responsible for day-to-day supervision and operation of an area assigned pharmacy. Could make decisions that may affect the division, department and/or GHS Systems financial and performance objectives and strategic results. May assist in the development of budget for area or provide input to manager/director on budget for area. Immediately supervises employees in the area, including education and training. May provide information or documentation to manager to assist with performance reviews, hiring, disciplinary action or terminations. Performs duties for the age population served, as defined in the departments scope of service.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

1. Participates in the development of departmental goals and objectives.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Ensures that departmental priorities are carried out on a daily basis.
Ensures that goals and objectives of the department are administered daily and are consistent with management expectations.
Ensures that departmental measures for processes and expectations are carried out on a daily basis.
Assists Director with recommending alternative methods of providing services to reduce departmental operating costs.
Supervises the staff of the department in regards to fluctuations in the workload.

2. Demonstrates effectiveness in supervising assigned staff.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Supervises departmental staff and processes and recommends changes as needed on a daily basis.
Supervises operation of the department daily.
Provides leadership to maximize the effectiveness of the work performed daily.
Works with management and staff on data concerning the department and their activities.

3. Coordinates the daily activities of the assigned work area.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
Coordinates the daily productivity of the department.
Maintains an effective working relationship with administration and other departments.
Monitors the performance improvement program for the department.
Coordinates programs that are developed to improve departmental communications.

4. Demonstrates effectiveness in monitoring the daily activities of the department.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Ensures that standards of performance are administered daily.
Communicates policy interpretation to staff.
Communicates effectively and expresses information clearly to staff.
Maintains required records, reports and statistics as required.
Analyzes operational data and adjusts as necessary to provide adequate, economical service.

5. Validates and monitors staff competency and job performance.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Validates initial competency on all new staff
Maintains ongoing assessment process for monitoring continued staff competency.
Addresses competency issues with individual staff members through education and/or training and monitors improvement.
Documents staff competency as defined by department policy.

6. Provides technical and supervisory skills for assisting in the operating functions
of the department.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Performs tasks as Registered Pharmacist.
Investigates and identifies the cause of a problem before taking corrective action.
Serves as a resource by sharing knowledge on technical issues.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of advanced technical procedures.

7. Functions as clinical resource to staff registered pharmacists and other pharmacy staff.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Serves as a resource and advisor when requested.
Ensures employee health processes are followed and assist in employee incidents. Responds appropriately to staff requests on ethical and legal questions.
Assists the manager in the performance evaluation process for staff.
Completes the scheduling of employees, based upon census and required skills.
Works with educator in identifying educational needs of the staff.
Collaborates with manager regarding daily activities of the department.

8. Performs all other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Maintains competency required for job function / position.

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
5 years experience in hospital pharmacy practice preferred.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
PharmD preferred.

SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Current Louisiana Pharmacy license.

HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records without limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information,3rd party billing, information related to patient location, religious beliefs, research information, public health records, employee prescriptions, and/or investigatory information.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, receives patient orders, and monitoring clinical alarms.
