ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs server maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting.
Performs new installation of server hardware, network infrastructure, and software systems.
Attends meetings about technology upgrades, projects, etc.
Planning and implementation of new systems or improvements to current systems.
Manages the team of System Specialists and Computer Support Technicians.
Collaborates with Director and Assistant Director in some decision-making and delegation for most day-to-day operations and projects.
Handles and assists with coordinating repairs, installations, and/or distribution of City radio equipment.
Performs day-to-day maintenance of security by adding and deleting users, Antivirus updates, setting up new telephones, etc.
Interacts with system users about issues they are currently having to solve problems, resolve errors, and ensure total satisfaction.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as network flags and alerts; checking overall network health.
Assists and/or collaborates with Director and Assistant Director in preparing and/or processing various records and reports such as work orders, technical specifications, and policies.
Refers to technical datasheets, Internet, technical manuals, consultant reports, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. when needed.
Operates a personal vehicle, office equipment, and machinery such as network testing equipment, computer, printer, telephone system, etc.
Installs, configures, and maintains the IT Service Desk and assists with assigning and executing trouble tickets.
Installs and assists in maintaining the City’s telephone system including troubleshooting problems with individual telephones and the telephone equipment.
Creates and modifies new internet policies in the WatchGuard to allow access/deny access to websites for city employees as requested by IT department supervisors.
Performs data migration and email configuration. Conducts network mapping for employees with a change in access and/or department. Assists and/or backups Office Manager for new hire account creation.
Configures and installs Access Points in required locations throughout the City.
Assist the EOC on a regular basis, keeping all computers and equipment tested, updated and upgraded as needed to increase the Operational Readiness of the EOC in case of storms and other emergencies.
Uses a variety of tools such as network tools, laptop computer, etc.; a variety of supplies such as network supplies, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Active Directory, Papervision, Microsoft O365, Dameware NT, Microsoft Office, Putty, etc.
Receives, configures and deploys city equipment; such as MFA’s, new city cell phones, laptop computers and iPads to required employees.
Addresses and guides techs on troubleshooting or configuration issues relating to hardware or software requiring assistance.
Assists with installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains analog telephone equipment and analog telephone lines throughout the city.
Works with and assists installation technicians from outside vendors to ensure all work completed per standards set by the contracts.
Coordinates telephone, data, fiber, and coax wiring projects throughout City departments.
Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and will assist technicians maintaining the time keeping equipment.
Works closely with our third-party consulting firm to administer the City data backup system.
Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains desktop computers or servers, laptops, wireless network adapter cards, network printers, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, desktop card readers, plotters, sign cutters, and any software required for end users to complete their job requirements.
Creates and maintains master computer image.
Maintains and modifies automations that resolve common problems that execute themselves daily on every laptop.
Receives, reads through, investigates and signs off (approved or denied) Right of Way Permits for Code Enforcement to make sure that companies doing underground work (sewage, utilities, storm drainage, etc.) don’t dig into or damage the City’s Fiber Optic infrastructure.
Sorts through notification emails daily for systems around the city (battery backup power issues, servers or switches going down, etc.) and deals with them on a priority basis, when needed.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including Directors, Administration, users, Information Technology staff, vendors, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Checks daily backups.
Troubleshoots errors when other technicians cannot resolve the problems.
Backs up other personnel in the department when needed.
Meets with vendors and consultants.
Performs related duties as required.
Position is classified as Level 4.
