Job Description
The Assistant Registrar of Data Management & Institutional Reporting is responsible for management of information for quantitative and qualitative data across the institution to support operational and immediate priorities of the College. In collaboration with database experts in Admissions, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, and other offices, this position regularly collects and protects data for regulatory reporting requirements of several governing bodies. Reporting to the Registrar, this position uses and analyzes data to help guide decision-making while maintaining internal and external reporting requests. Utilizing various analytical tools and reporting software(s), the Assistant Registrar serves alongside the Registrar as a primary steward of student, enrollment, and other operational data to support the College’s institutional reporting and research.
Essential Duties Summary
Maintains external reporting schedule and directs coordination of data across offices
Prepare reports for submission to various regulatory bodies including but not limited to HESC/TAP (NY Higher Education Services/Tuition Assistance Program), IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System), MSCHE (Middle States Commission on Higher Education), NSC (National Student Clearinghouse), NYSED (New York State Education Department), Title II (Teacher Education Preparation)
Closely communicates with staff across offices to direct data collection and submission to above bodies
Properly use various data systems and enterprise-wide survey tools to collect and analyze required reports both internal for college-use and external for regulatory requirements
Prepare and finalize regulatory data to present to Registrar as keyholder for accurate and timely submission
Respond to individual DegreeVerify requests for student and alum verifications via the NSC
Generate and provide ad hoc reports as requested to support institutional strategic and tactical planning
Use data to describe Sarah Lawrence College students and faculty in the areas of enrollment, retention, graduation rates, degrees granted, gender, race/ethnicity, and national origin
Raise awareness of and access to data and IR analytical capabilities to support college operations
Prepare, analyze, and present reports to demonstrate value of data-informed decision-making within the mission and vision of the College
Collaborate with the Office of Global Education to accurately classify and register study abroad students each semester
Annually review student assessments with the Provost’s Office such as lecture/seminar evaluation templates and course appraisal questions
Provide appropriate support related to research and assessment matters that impact college goals
Maintain knowledge of industry standards in following professional organizations such as AIR (Association for Institutional Research) and HEDS Consortium (Higher Education Data Sharing) and other relevant groups
Support operations of the Registrar’s Office including taking phone calls, responding to emails, and assisting students and faculty in person
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, master’s degree preferred
Three to five years of significant and relevant higher education experience that includes data collection and analysis, and collaboration with campus stakeholders
Demonstrated institutional research experience including management of regulatory reporting, quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis, data management, and educational research
Strong understanding of various Microsoft Office applications (Access, Excel, Outlook) to perform essential functions
Proficient in preparing and testing complex data queries and audience-specific reports using InfoMaker, Microsoft Access, Microsoft BI, SQL, Crystal Reports, Tableau or other industry-standard reporting tools
Comprehensive experience with college/university ERP and related SIS reporting software to advance institutional research capabilities
Familiar with higher education best practices related to institutional research and data management
Experience with sophisticated visual analytics and dashboard creation preferred
Knowledge of SPSS or other statistical applications preferred
