Role Summary:
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role oversees a team of four and is responsible for leading SEC reporting and the corporate SOX program. This is a highly visible role that offers the opportunity to work with various Finance function within the Company, including all Accounting functions, FP&A, Investor Relations, Treasury, Stock Administration and Corporate Tax, as well as HR, Legal and various operational functions, which will allow you to gain a strong understanding of the Company’s business and operations in a short period of time. The position requires strong financial, accounting and management skills, a strong business sense and the ability to understand the big picture while being detail oriented.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, who is has a strong working knowledge of US GAAP, SOX 404 compliance requirements and has Biotech/Pharma industry experience. The candidate should be a great communicator,enjoy collaborating with people with a diverse set of talents and able to motivate others.
Responsibilities:
SEC Reporting:
Manage the SEC financial reporting process, including the preparation and review of the Company’s SEC filings (including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and various other filings), managing the SEC team, and working closely with other functions as needed.
Review financial statements (including statement of cash flows), footnotes, MD&A, US GAAP Disclosure Checklist and disclosure support.
Proactively research industry reporting trends and perform benchmarking to make recommendations to strengthen the Company’s SEC filings.
Stay current with FASB accounting standard updates and ensure appropriate disclosure requirements are met.
Manage accounting for stock-based compensation in compliance with ASC 718, including reviewing valuation assumptions.
Review analysis of quarterly basic and diluted EPS calculations.
Coordinate with Legal, Finance and Investor Relations teams to prepare SEC Filings, earnings releases and investor presentations.
Participate in cross-functional ESG compliance team and lead readiness efforts for SEC compliance.
Present and provide periodic financial reporting updates to global Finance leadership as and when applicable.
SOX 404:
Oversee corporate SOX program, in collaboration with the Company’s third-party service provider, including risk assessment, design assessment, walkthroughs, documentation, testing of internal controls and ITGCs.
Work in partnership with control owners and business leaders across the Company to identify, develop, recommend, and implement appropriate control changes or enhancements that may results from business changes, non-routine transactionsorsystem implementations.
Work with control owners to evaluate control deficiencies, develop remediation plans and recommend improvements related to the Company’s key controls.
Monitor management’s remediation efforts to closure, including review of supporting evidence.
Other:
Prepare/review certain technical accounting memos and effectively communicate technical accounting conclusions and supporting rationale.
Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager’s discretion.
Manage workload distribution, prioritize tasks, and ensure deadlines are met effectively.
Lead and mentor finance professionals within the team, providing guidance and development opportunities and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required. CPA or equivalent experience required.
Experience:
10+ years of relevant experience with mix of Big 4 public accounting and a compliance role in industry or consulting (biotech industry preferred).
Advanced understanding of SEC Reporting and SOX 404.
Strong attention to detail, decision-making, problem-solving, project management and organizational skills.
Solutions-oriented, ability to work with others and lead and affect process change and improvements.
Excellent Excel spreadsheet skills, accounting system and proficiency with other Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, etc.); Oracle/Hyperion reporting experience a plus.
Excellent communication skills, written and oral, to facilitate interaction through all levels of the organization.
Ability to research and propose resolutions on complex accounting issues.
Ability to quickly learn and utilize reporting and other management systems and tools.
