Job Abstract

JOB PURPOSE AND OVERVIEW

The Court Scheduler is responsible for scheduling criminal hearings for the Court, monitoring the Court’s cases to facilitate timely resolution, and maintaining, recording, documenting, and generating reports regarding Court statistics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

The following duties indicate the general nature and level of work performed by the Court Scheduler. They are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of this position. Other duties may be required or assigned at any time.

1. Schedule pre-trial, trial, bench trial, jury trial, and settlement conference dates.
2. Coordinate the scheduling of dockets and hearings for Housing Court Administrative Judge.
3. Review the pending case list periodically, addressing stalled cases.
4. Maintain statistics and other information necessary for the completion of the Supreme Court reports.
5. Submit reports to the Supreme Court of Ohio as required.
6. Maintain the Judge's Personal Docket (for Supreme Court purposes), including collection and entry of new cases onto the docket, and termination of cases.
7. Enter and maintain computerized records in the Supreme Court Reporting Statistical/Record Keeping System.
8. Generate monthly, and annual Supreme Court reports and pending case lists.
9. Maintain and supply statistical information to the Judge and other court personnel, as requested, including Supreme Court reports, pending case lists, etc.
10. Prepare and bailiff specialized dockets.
11. Conduct annual physical count of pending cases.
12. Conduct an annual review of rent deposit cases.
13. Prepare a weekly calendar for the Administrative Judge.
14. Prepare an annual specialized docket calendar.
15. Perform walk-throughs daily.
16. Coordinate interpreters for the court.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. High School diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
2. Knowledge of the court system and procedure preferred.
3. Knowledge of common office practices, procedures, and equipment.
4. Proficiency in operating a personal computer and using, or being able to learn, Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and Westlaw).
5. Ability to prioritize work, and work independently without daily direct supervision. Must have good time-management skills, and be highly organized and detail-oriented.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with judges, Court employees, lawyers, outside agencies, businesses, and the general public.
7. Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
8. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate verbally and in writing in English to diverse audiences.
9. Must be conscious of and sensitive to the diversity within the Court’s jurisdiction and be able to interact professionally with a diverse population of people from many different geographic, socioeconomic, religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
10. Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for the position and expected of a representative of the Court.
11. Demonstrated dependability, reliability, and excellent attendance record.
12. Patience, objectivity, maturity, effectiveness under stress, initiative, adaptability, and sound judgment.

COURT EXPECTATIONS OF EMPLOYEE

The Court expects all members of its staff to adhere to all Court policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures; act as a role model both inside and outside the Court; perform duties as workload necessitates in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner; be conscientious about meeting department productivity standards; and communicate regularly with supervisor about department issues.
