Job Abstract

Yard Jockey operates diesel powered tractor trailer combination bringing trailers to and from loading docks, to and from the yard, to be loaded and unloaded.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Backing/ Pulling loaded and unloaded trailers away from loading docks to be staged in the yard. Moves trailers within the yard, under direction of Shipping, Supervisors, and Warehouse Leads. Opens and closes various doors on trailers, secures trailers... more details with locks or seals. Performs safety checks on yard equipment and trailers (any visual damage, inspections up to date). Required to fill out and maintain records, logs, and forms. Monitor yard for refrigerated equipment operation and maintaining of temperature. Adjust temp set point on refrigeration units and report shut down codes to supervisor. Inspect and maintain fuel levels for company's trailers/rental trailer at the docks/yard. Organize trailers in the yard when trailer moves are not being given. Required to maintain contact with shipping personnel to receive instructions on when and where to move trailers or other company equipment, such as straight trucks. Communicate with transportation team within a timely manner. Maintain a clean appearance inside and outside of all vehicles. Report all accidents immediately to the management team. EDUCATION AND/ OR EXPERIENCE
Previous experience is preferred, but not required for this position. No formal education is required. LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to speak English, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
