| Job Description Summary | The director leads the Middle Eastern and North Afican initiatives of Chapman University’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to foster and cultivate a supportive and inclusive University community for all. The director works collaboratively with internal stakeholders and community partners to advance MENA efforts throughout the university community. The director serves as the touchpoint for university community members who would like to work around topics that impact Chapman students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni who identify as MENA. The director will teach courses and provide education relating to the peoples and experiences from the region that comprises the Middle East and North Africa. The director provides leadership, vision, and management for the campus-wide effort responsible for MENA recruitment, belonging, retention, engagement, and success; and will report to the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. |
| Responsibilities | - Advise and make recommendations to the VP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and other campus leaders regarding practice, policies, and procedures as they directly relate to the success of the MENA student population as well as other traditionally underrepresented and systematically excluded groups
- Support the VP of DEI with campus wide efforts; participates in campus awareness and advocacy efforts that facilitate the personal, social, academic, and cultural well-being of MENA students
- Develop and assess learning outcomes and effectiveness for all MENA programs and initiatives; utilizes data to improve diversity initiatives and program impact
- Represent the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by attending cultural activities within and outside of the University community
- Serve as a liaison between students, student organizations, and other university departments to ensure smooth delivery of DEI-related services and promote positive communication and collaboration
- The director will teach courses and provide education relating to the peoples and experiences from the region that comprises the Middle East and North Africa
- Design and collaboratively draft inclusive policies that reinforce diversity in the workplace · Participate in professional development and networking functions that advance MENA success
- Assist in the development and also serve as department liaison to the MENA Faculty and Staff Forum
- Assist in the development of a MENA Alumni Association
- Promote participation for MENA faculty in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity programs
- Actively work with departments on campus to promote faculty recruitment of MENA scholars
- Advocate for MENA initiatives and growth efforts;
- Collaborate with Student Engagement and Cross-Cultural Center to organize annual MENA student celebrations
- Assist in the training efforts deployed towards hiring managers and HR staff for more inclusive processes that aim to select, manage, evaluate, and retain diverse talent
- Revise and update all communication on the institutional diversity website, social media pages, and internal documents to ensure we use non-discriminatory language
- Collaboratively develop and organize DEI-based training programs for the university community
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations on diversity and equity
- Develop guidance whitepapers on DEI-specific initiatives and engagement opportunities for the VP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Other duties as assigned by the VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

| Required Qualifications | - Masters degree
- Minimum of three (3) years progressive experience in program development, recruitment, retention, and support activities for MENA and underrepresented students in higher education, non-profit agencies, community organizations, public school districts, or governmental units.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
- Superb judgment, demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated sensitivity, imagination, effectiveness and success in developing educational community programs
- Awareness of how social identities (race, first-generation student status, citizenship, ability, sexuality, gender identity, gender expression, etc.) impact living and learning environment and student discourse on a college campus

| Desired Qualifications | - Earned Doctorate or terminal degree in relevant academic field and (5 years) progressive experience in program development, recruitment, retention, and support activities for MENA and underrepresented students in higher education, non-profit agencies, community organizations, public school districts, or governmental units.
- Experience teaching at the college level
- Experience assisting in developing intercultural programs at the university level
- A demonstrated understanding of strategic planning, experience utilizing data and assessment to inform decision making, and effective program advocacy skills.
- Experience using interpersonal skills to work effectively across cultures.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks with thorough attention to detail and consistency; ability to set and attain goals while working collaboratively and independently on various projects.
- Experience working effectively with young adults/adolescents, families, faculty, senior administration and staff members within a similar higher education setting.
