Under general supervision of the Chief of Traffic Signal Unit, performs work involved in the maintenance of traffic signals and traffic signal control systems in an emergency capacity. Such work includes: The emergency repairs of traffic signals, traffic signal controllers, pedestrian units, control signs(illuminated and otherwise), underground and overhead cables, neon units, flood lights, transformers, and all other equipment related to these systems. Supervises a Line Helper Driver and insures that vehicles and equipment are maintained in good condition. Keeps time, work, and material records. Performs all related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must hold regular appointment as a Low Tension Lineman in the Division of Traffic Engineering for at least one year and have completed a four-year apprenticeship. A valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License is required. Must be able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds. Must be able to climb poles.
Supplemental Information
DUTIES: Under direct and occasional general supervision, is responsible for all duties associated with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of street lighting. Installs and removes secondary loops, wires, and cables for street lighting and secondary distribution under 600 volts. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs street lighting circuitry as needed. Performs other job-related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS: A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have completed a three-level apprenticeship program administered by the City of Cleveland or another recognized apprenticeship program OR must be a certified electrician by the State of Ohio. (Substitution: Any experience as a Low or High Tension Lineman other than with the City of Cleveland may be substituted for the City’s apprenticeship program.) A valid State of Ohio Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver’s License is required. A valid State of Ohio Class “A” is preferred. Must be able to work overtime during emergencies and for call outs. Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds.
