About the role:
We're in search of an exceptional Research Associate to join our Spatial Team. You'll be an integral part of our highly collaborative R&D team, focused on demonstrating the value of 10x products. As a research associate, you will be responsible for performing the in situ analysis of biological tissue samples from collaborators and customer projects. This will involve supporting all aspects of the process, from library preparation, instrument operation, and initial analysis and QC of the data, ensuring the highest quality results are achieved throughout the entire process. The successful candidate in this position will work closely with expert scientists in spatial analysis and will have the opportunity to participate in high profile cutting edge biological and disease-related research projects.
You bring a strong background in the biological sciences and have acquired significant experience in conducting in situ and spatial genomic assays. You possess excellent communication skills, are detail oriented and can effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, integrating their feedback into your experimental design. Your high motivation, proactiveness, and adaptability allow you to navigate changing priorities and methods with ease. Thriving in fast-paced environments, you excel at managing multiple priorities, communicating clearly, and consistently delivering results.
What you will be doing:
- Performing in situ assays on tissue sections on microscope glass slides
- High throughput fluorescent microscopy imaging of the processed tissue samples, and image data pre-processing
- Library preparation workflows
- Participate in troubleshooting of assays and microscope instruments
- Optimization studies of protocols for specific tissue samples
- Deliver processed image data to and work closely with computational biologists for image data analysis
- Maintain relevant documentation for record keeping related to the projects
To be successful, you will need:
- MSc, or equivalent, in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Experience with molecular biology techniques including immunostaining and/or in situ hybridization techniques (e.g. FISH, RNAscope, in situ hybridization)
- A proven track-record of using and optimizing and troubleshooting molecular biology protocols
- Light and fluorescent microscopy experience (confocal or standard epi-fluorescence)
- Knowledge and troubleshooting experience with liquid handling or automated systems (e.g. Tecan, Hamilton)
Additionally, we’d like to see:
- Tissue handling experience (fresh frozen, FFPE, cryosectioning, antigen retrieval, etc.)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to plan and structure your work
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
It would be advantageous if you had:
- Basic coding skills
- Experience with image analysis using relevant SW (e.g. CellProfiler, ImageJ)
- Familiarity with NGS library preparation workflows
- Work experience from similar positions in academia, industry or a service provider/core facility
