Position description
The TEST Lab (Theory, Experiment, and Simulation to Test ideas) within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara seeks a postdoctoral scholar for research projects at the interface of Applied Math, Physics, Mechanics, and Biology. Our group combines Theory, simple table top Experiment, and numerical Simulation to Test ideas and gain insights into the evolution of patterns in complex systems, such as the growth and form of living matter, and the emergence of collective behaviour in active systems. Also, we use data-driven methods to learn the underlying physical laws of these complex systems.
Both experimentalists and theoreticians are welcome to apply for the postdoc position. Current topics of research include: active solids, fluids-solids interaction, statistical mechanics of growing filaments.
The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.
