Position Summary:
Provides leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in swimming lessons. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere promoting member safety and engagement, youth development and healthy living in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately and appropriately, in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
- Maintains all required certifications, in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
- Conducts swim lessons for one to two participants in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures. Coordinates with parents to schedule a mutually agreed upon time for lessons.
- Develops swimming and water safety skills using effective organizational patterns, observation, instructional floatation devices and teaching techniques, adjusting for each participants developmental needs.
- Creates a positive student experience by providing effective feedback, celebrating success, and encouraging progress.
- Creates a positive parent experience by interacting before and after each lesson, giving constructive feedback and giving opportunities for at home learning. Address parent concerns and communicate with aquatics leadership.
- Maintains accurate records of attendance and progress, as required by YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
- Performs daily equipment checks and reports damaged equipment. Prepare equipment prior to class start based on lesson plans. Organizes and puts away all equipment after use.
- Attends all staff meetings and trainings, as required by YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
- May be required to conduct stroke development clinics, or other aquatics programs as needed.
- Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
- Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
