Job Summary
The person in this position works under general supervision, to perform a variety of instructional and routine clerical duties designed to free the instructor from routine work related to the program and to provide specialized instruction. Primary responsibilities of the position are to:
- Provide individual and group lessons on musical instruments.
- Develop and implement personalized lesson plans to meet the needs and goals of each student.
- Prepare students for recitals, concerts, auditions, and competitions; contribute to the overall development of the music program.
- Collaborate with other music instructors and the music director to plan and execute performances.
- Evaluate and track student progress, providing feedback and adjusting teaching methods as necessary.
- Maintain an encouraging and supportive learning environment.
- Stay current with developments in music education theory and pedagogy.
- Assist with music program administrative tasks as needed (e.g., scheduling, communication with parents).
- Promote a culture of discipline, creativity, and excellence within the music program.
Requirements / Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Variety of musical styles and genres;
- Familiarity with music software and teaching aids;
- Digital tools and resources for music education
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training, education and experience, which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position. Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field (preferred). Proficiency in one or more musical instruments, with a strong performance background. Previous teaching experience, preferably with students of various age groups.
Note: Incumbent is not required to hold California Teaching Credential.
