Job Description:
The Internal Communications Strategist will be responsible for creating content in a fast-paced environment. You will write executive communications, work well under tight deadlines and provide error-free quality work. Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) and Government Publishing Office (GPO) styles are key. To be successful in this role, you must be a strong, influential communicator and writer, ensure collaboration with others and demonstrate the ability to interface with technical and non-technical partners at all levels. You will be a self-starter who builds strong relationships and trusted partnerships – someone who can manage projects while also providing hands-on support to develop communications/comm strategy. You will have the opportunity to drive measurable results for integrated campaigns and branded content. This role provides interesting, varied work, and requires innovative thinking.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with enterprise communications, and business and corporate partners to create differentiated, compelling content for multi-channel storytelling and engagement for internal audiences that align to business priorities, deliver our brand voice, and drive engagement with employees.
- Make strategic recommendations for content topic alignment and prioritization, and deliver content aligned to business priorities, in collaboration with colleagues and diverse stakeholders.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to cross-functional partners, crafting clear, factual messages for a wide range of complex issues and changes.
- Embrace ambiguity and changing tides, be able to quickly get up to speed on complex issues, anticipate employee questions/reactions, and quickly prepare thorough messaging strategies.
- Coordinate with news team on creating engaging relevant content to our internal stakeholders.
- Understand existing channels and be innovative on what new internal channels we need to explore.
- Will need to be proficient in writing executive emails, executive communications, collateral materials, and content.
- Develop and implement effective communications strategies across various channels to ensure messages reach and engage internal audiences.
- Support and advance a “sense of belonging” through storytelling and coordination with Enterprise Communications and MITRE’s Business Resource Groups (BRGs).
- Orchestrate content creation for all internal audiences including, but not limited to corporate copy; bios; website copy; and collateral materials.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key internal partners; hold your own when alongside senior leadership and push things through in the face of obstacles.
- Influence by adopting a range of styles, tools, and techniques appropriate to the audience and information.
- Tap into your strong creative flair and turn sophisticated information into relevant, engaging, timely and valuable content.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to write in multiple tones for multiple audiences and communicate complicated topics, strong familiarity w AP and GPO styles.
- Proven success including leading cohesive content initiatives, including creating and delivering integrated marketing strategies and high-performing internal campaigns.
- Have prior experience writing executive communications, working tight deadlines and providing error-free quality work.
- Have a passion for creating engaging copy and developing corresponding visual / multi-channel elements for impactful storytelling through digital promotions and marketing campaigns.
- Project management, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Ability to translate technical jargon and concepts into copy that is interesting and accessible to all audiences.
- A keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously, often under pressure and with tight deadlines.
- Ability to work successfully as part of a team and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity w MS Project, Planner, deep expertise in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- A college degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Management Consulting, Big Four and PR Agency environments.
