Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Sr. Tax Manager to join our team. Here at Mechanics Bank, we value connection, partnership, long term relationships and working together in person. This role will be working on-site at our Walnut Creek office.
Manages tax accounting, compliance and decision support enterprise wide in multi-jurisdictional environment. Ensures compliance with all tax regulations, as well as planning, development and implementation of strategies to optimize the Bank’s tax position. Manages GAAP income tax accounting models and related financial statement and regulatory reporting.
What you will be doing:
Manage financial reporting (GAAP income tax accounting and regulatory) in accordance with current tax laws and accounting pronouncements.
Coordinate with internal and external resources to complete tax compliance across all tax types - income, franchise/excise, sales/use, property, payroll and local.
Maintain currency with federal, state and local tax legislation and accounting pronouncements.
Research and documentation of material tax positions taken in return and ensure proper reflection in financial statements. Manage and support tax research to identify tax implications of proposed transactions and provide tax advice to business partners.
Build and foster cross-functional relationships within and outside of the finance department. Supervise, mentor and develop internal staff.
Who you are:
4 year degree (Bachelor's Degree) in Accounting or Finance required.
Graduate degree highly preferred.
5 years of related experience required and 1 year of leadership preferred.
Current knowledge of ASC 740 and related pronouncements.
Knowledge of accounting principles and processes.
Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations and capability of application in new situations.
Knowledge of financial services accounting and tax concepts.
Advanced proficiency with Excel
Skill in analyzing processes to determine the potential of automation for greater efficiencies.
Ability to work independently and at all levels necessary for successful completion of projects.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing with internal and external business partners at all levels.
Active California CPA license preferred or CPA eligible

Salary: $160,000-260,000 annually
Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
