Position summary
T-Mobile is America’s supercharged Un-carrier, delivering an advanced 4G LTE and transformative nationwide 5G network that will offer reliable connectivity for all. Sr. Engineers, Systems Architecture located in Reston, VA will provide radio frequency (RF) and/or wireless transmission design.
Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design, plan, and oversee installation and maintenance of wireless radio communication systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, cell site equipment layout, parameter definition, and ancillary equipment;
Interact with senior internal and external personnel and have a full understanding of industry practices, company policies and procedures;
Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors;
Provide senior subject matter feedback as well as high-level professional and analytical insight to the RF Design Planning organization;
Evaluate 4G/5G and future RF Network designs, impacts of new technologies (3GPP, non-standard, and proprietary) and new deployment strategies, validation, and analysis of data collected from the field in comparison to theoretical models;
Perform engineering feasibility studies, network modeling and capacity planning to support various deployment scenarios that ultimately assists in shaping the strategic decisions.
Specific Skills Requirement - must have educational or professional experience in:
Utilizing Alteryx and MapInfo for supporting the national, regional, and market engineering teams on optimal use of spectrum resources to mitigate capacity constraint challenges, and partner with cross-functional teams and third-party vendors in guiding operational aspects of project scope, risks, analysis, and reporting for multiple markets.
Analyzing potential spectrum acquisitions and swaps for value and benefit to T-Mobile. Liaise with business, legal and regulatory teams to address business challenges and spectrum usage across various bands utilizing internal tracking tools (utilizing Excel and databases) and FCC ULS data.
Conducting multi-RAT and HetNet analysis in support of providing input to technology migrations. Interface with various internal teams (Spectrum, RAN Development, and national and local RF teams) to provide and receive input on best course of action for various scenarios.
Utilizing RF Propagation tools like Atoll to predict signal quality and interference levels to identify areas of concern and their resulting impacts on coverage and performance; and develop corrective recommendation.
Preparing and delivering presentation materials based on the RF analysis performed, primarily PowerPoint presentations, including tables, charts and maps to audiences of both technical and non-technical individuals. Convey clear and actionable conclusions.
Converting Regulatory Rules and proposed technical feature descriptions or proposed cell type descriptions into critical characteristics that can be modeled to determine their probable benefits and impacts on a future network and how and when they should or shouldn’t be utilized.
Experience and education requirements:
PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or related, and three years of relevant work experience.
ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or related, and five years of relevant work experience.
Telecommuting is permitted, but applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance.
