Position Summary:
This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the discourse and action surrounding the climate change challenge. The Executive Director will help shape and drive priorities and outcomes for the ICF Climate Center, which works to build brand awareness and growth for ICF’s climate business. As a senior executive at ICF, the Executive Director will be a core expert and spokesperson for the Center, and will engage with leaders across ICF, clients, partners, and the media to amplify ICF’s deep subject matter expertise and perspectives across all facets of climate change.
The Executive Director will work to shape the strategy for the Climate Center and serve as a key contributor to program workstreams including thought leadership, events, client engagement, partnerships, internships, and more.
A highly visible role, the Executive Director will serve as a lead speaker and author on climate and energy topics, working with a cohort of over 25 subject-matter experts who make up the Climate Center fellows and representing ICF’s specialized expertise in topics central to the Climate Center: climate policy and planning, decarbonization, resilience and the energy transition.
The Executive Director will be an advisor to ICF’s clients, helping them advance climate plans and strategies and, where possible, convening clients and prospects in dialogue and engagement on key climate and energy topics.
The Executive Director will work closely with the senior leaders of ICF’s climate and energy businesses and the company’s Chief Marketing Officer, as well as other members of ICF’s executive leadership team in supporting the Climate Center’s goals to build brand awareness and business growth.
The Executive Director will work in partnership with 1-2 Deputy Directors, a dedicated marketing and PR team, and a growing portfolio of subject matter experts who serve as senior fellows in the Climate Center.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Promote the Center’s brand, insights and activities to media, clients, and industry groups with the goal of building awareness and understanding of ICF’s differentiated contributions to and capabilities in the climate, environment, energy, and policy arenas. Ensure that Climate Center programs are highly correlated to ICF’s business development and growth strategy.
Industry Thought Leadership: Help to shape informed, science-driven perspectives on key policy, regulatory, and technological challenges in the climate arena. Work to develop and share ICF’s insights and proprietary research through client engagement, industry outreach, press engagement, and meaningful partnerships with industry, academia, businesses, non-profit organizations, and government leaders. This includes contributing technical depth in one or more relevant aspects of climate change mitigation or adaptation.
Market Strategy & Development: Support ICF’s market development strategy, including analysis of key trends shaping the market and identification of new opportunities for ICF to support clients and advance climate goals.
Client Engagement & Outreach: Advise and support growth and business development efforts that advance progress in the climate, environment, energy, and policy arenas. Secure and participate in high-value client, prospect and partner meetings and help to shape key strategic opportunities.
Network & Relationship Development: Act as a connector and relationship-builder – find creative ways to build high-value networking and engagement among ICF employees, clients, prospects, prospective employees, partners, and industry groups.
Minimum Qualifications:
15+ years’?experience?engaging professionally?on?climate-related?topics; these may include?greenhouse gas mitigation, climate adaptation,?infrastructure resilience,?climate change science,?decarbonization pathways, and/or clean energy and?clean?transportation.? ?
Recognized subject matter expertise and technical depth in one or more relevant aspects of climate change mitigation or adaptation.
Experience working as a senior leader/executive in a climate-focused role at a federal agency, state or local government, nonprofit, energy utility, climate consultancy, or similar organization preferred.
Demonstrated track record of?writing, public speaking, and engaging with?media and industry conferences and events?on?climate and environment-related topics.?
Demonstrated strength?coordinating and effectively driving outcomes through a combination of authority and influence across functions or disciplines in an organization.??
Reputation for strong?emotional intelligence, critical thinking skills, creativity and?integrity.??

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:
