JOB CRITERIA AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned
Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, preparing for exam, etc.
Performing EKGs, vital signs (manual), venipuncture, and injections
Collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures
Charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information
Understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned
Sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
Completing forms/requisitions and pre-certifications/prior-authorizations as needed; managing and updating EMR to ensure that information is complete
Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned
Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols
Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control
Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned
Respecting/promoting patient rights
Responding appropriately to emergencies
Sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution preferred.
If registered, current MA registration.
Experience:
One year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office preferred.
Experience in cardiology preferred.
Other Skills:
EMR Knowledge (ECW and Meditech experience preferred but not required)
Must possess a current CPR certification
Knowledge:
Knowledge of basic medical terminology and organization services.
Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to patient information.
Knowledge of organization's policies and procedures.
Skills:
Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
Skill in using computers.
Skill in exercising sound judgment and remaining professional at all times.
Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
